Gretchen Price

Visual Artist • Painter • Observer of Duality

Gretchen Price is a Bay Area–based visual artist whose work is inspired by the natural world and the quiet tension between beauty and unease. She is drawn to moments where enchantment meets discomfort—where awe and terror, humor and grief, decay and renewal exist side by side.

Birds, plants, and organic forms frequently appear in Gretchen’s work, serving as entry points into layered meaning and philosophical reflection. A banana slug gliding across a forest floor, a joyful tune carrying a tragic story, the idea that decay itself fuels new life—these contradictions are central to her practice. Her paintings explore irony and duality, inviting viewers to sit with complexity rather than resolve it.

Gretchen’s process embraces both lightness and darkness. Through intuitive mark-making, thoughtful composition, and nuanced color, she creates work that feels alive—sometimes playful, sometimes unsettling, often both at once. Each piece offers space for curiosity, contemplation, and personal interpretation.

At Alameda Gallery & Collective, Gretchen’s work brings a grounded, natural energy that encourages viewers to slow down, observe closely, and find meaning in the overlooked and the in-between.
