Sandy Russell - Founder

Sandy opened Alameda Gallery & Collective with a simple spark: when the space next to The Fireside Lounge opened up, she saw the perfect chance to blend her love of community, art, and the vintage collections she’s curated over a lifetime. Warm, nurturing, and a natural gatherer of people, Sandy has a talent for turning spaces into hubs of creativity and connection.

Beyond the gallery, she is best known as the owner of The Fireside Lounge, a bar celebrated for its inclusive atmosphere, live music, comedy, and arts events. She also runs Crate Big Ideas, transforming repurposed materials into imaginative home décor that reflects her commitment to sustainability and creativity. Sandy’s influence extends deeply into Alameda’s cultural landscape: she has co-founded the West End Arts & Entertainment District, served on the Rhythmix Cultural Works board of directors, led the West Alameda Business Association as president, and represented local hospitality in citywide economic initiatives.

At the Gallery & Collective, Sandy is most excited for classes to begin in January, a chance to celebrate DIY culture with the friends who have become family, surrounded by art made by the people she loves. She is the guiding heart of the space, dedicated to cultivating creativity and community in equal measure.
